Robert J. DuBois RIP
Not really a posting this week in remembrance of my grandfather. He died yesterday. He was 93 and had been in an assisted living facility for some time. I often think how lucky I was to have known him for so long.
He lived in Pennsylvania. He studied and worked as a chemical engineer. He had a passion for collecting stamps (particularly Cinderella stamps); 33, 45 and 78 rpm vinyl records and loved random bits of world trivia. He was a fantastic harmonica player and played for my son, a few months ago. He also made an extensive catalog of Olympic Label stamps.
During his retirement years he volunteered at a local food pantry, Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army.
I will always remember a special trip I had with him alone: he took me to a stamp show at Madison Square Garden. I was pretty young, and wasn't particularly into stamps. It was so much fun spending the day with him: taking the Long Island Rail Road train and spending the day in New York City. He even bought me a gift in Penn Station on the way home.
He is survived by his wife, 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Update: This post is counting as my Fine Artist of the Month month post even though it doesn't fit the usually subject matter or criteria.
